PT. Dyrt Indonesia is a social enterprise that was founded in September 2008 in Jakarta, Indonesia by Karen Isdaryono and Beike van den Broek.
ConceptDyrt Indonesia turns recyclable materials like billboard vinyl into bags, accessories, office supplies and furniture items that are both fashionable and hip. Paying special attention to the quality of the designed products thus taking the use of recyclable materials to a next level. All of Dyrt Indonesia’s products are handmade locally by small home industries in Bogor, Bantul and Yogjakarta in Indonesia. By outsourcing its production, Dyrt Indonesia generates work and income for 25 to 100 workers at a time, depending on the production demand. Workers are literally turning trash into cash for themselves and their families.Dyrt Indonesia is committed to conduct weekly training to support the collaborating cooperatives in organizing and streamlining their production line and in managing their workload. Dyrt Indonesia is also providing micro credit financing options so that they may buy necessary equipment, train new workers, etc.Why billboard vinyl?Vinyl is developed to sustain outdoor conditions like sun and rain, which makes it durable and ideal to reuse. Each and every billboard is different and the variety of images and colors is very diverse, making it a perfect material to work with and resulting in a unique product. In the past two years DYRT Indonesia has reused more than 15 tons of waste.Product rangeOur product range consists of eight collections e.g. Dyrt Woman, Dyrt Man, Dyrt Home, and features more than 60 products like tote bags, shopping bags, messenger and laptop bags, diaper bags, stationery folders, laundry and waste bins, storage baskets, bean bags etc.Dyrt BrandDYRT has three meanings:DYRT is pronounced as ‘dirt’ (dûrt) because we design unique products made from trash that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.DYRT in Norwegian means expensive; to prove that even from dirt you can make something exclusive and give ‘dirt’ an expensive look.DYRT is a question in the form of an acronym: ‘Do You Recycle Too?’ This is a question to make people think about the contribution they are making to a good cause and the environment by purchasing and using our products.
